About The Event
A Magnificent Evening of Choral & Instrumental Masterworks
Join the Choirs of Christ Church Cathedral for an unforgettable Whitsuntide celebration spanning centuries of sacred and folk music. Under the direction of conductor Robert Simpson and with organist Valentina Huang, the evening journeys from the grandeur of the Baroque and Classical eras through the evocative textures of 20th-century folk settings — and culminates in one of the great choral masterpieces of the Western canon.
Joseph Haydn’s Missa in Angustiis — the beloved Lord Nelson Mass — brings the program to a powerful close, its drama and devotion as gripping today as when Haydn composed it in 1798.
A Farewell to a Legend
This concert holds special significance: it marks the final campus-wide concert in the 32-year ministry of Robert L. Simpson — Canon for Music, Organist-Choirmaster, and Grammy-winning conductor of Christ Church Cathedral. His decades of dedication have shaped the musical life of this community in ways that will echo for generations. We invite you to join us in celebrating his extraordinary legacy.
