About The Event

Discover the power of the Collect—a traditional form of prayer designed to focus our hearts, clarify our needs, and deepen our relationship with God.

What is a Collect?

Collects are a unique form of prayer at the center of Episcopal worship. Whether found in The Book of Common Prayer for specific Sundays or written for personal occasions, a Collect helps focus our minds on a specific purpose. Beyond the prayer book, the structure of the Collect provides a beautiful template for shaping our own personal prayers.

About the Series

Beginning this fall, Dean Katz will convene a monthly gathering to explore the Collect as a means of spiritual growth. Each session includes:

  • Reflection: Studying existing collects from The Book of Common Prayer.

  • Creation: Writing original collects based on prompts from Scripture and the seasons (liturgical and natural).

  • Community: Sharing our written prayers and spending time in prayer together.

Following the intro session, we will meet monthly online. These sessions take place on the second Wednesday of the month from 7:00–8:00 p.m.
