About
Welcome to Christ Church Cathedral
We are a proudly open and affirming Cathedral, embracing people of every race, age, orientation, and background. No matter who you are or where you are on your journey, there is a place for you here to worship, learn, and serve. At the Cathedral, all are welcome.
The Mother Church of the Diocese
In 1949, Christ Church was designated the Cathedral for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. As the “seat” of our Bishop and the Mother Church of the region, we serve as a spiritual home base for nearly 175 congregations across the southeastern quartile of Texas. We are a parish for the city and a cathedral for the state.
The Episcopal Way: Walking the “Middle Path”
As a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion, we embrace the via media—the middle way. We blend the beauty of ancient Catholic tradition with the forward-thinking spirit of the Protestant Reformation.

Our faith is guided by a “three-legged stool”:
- Scripture: The foundational story of God’s love.
- Tradition: The wisdom of those who walked the path before us.
- Reason: The God-given ability to think, question, and grow.
Our Covenant in Action
Following Jesus isn’t just about what we believe; it’s about how we live. We strive daily to live out our Baptismal Covenant: seeking Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves, and respecting the dignity of every human being.
